Should I Go For Smart Or Traditional Locks?
It’s no secret that security is a major cause of concern for not just homeowners but also commercial property owners. A lot of this has to do with the fact that burglary is a major crime in the United States.
So what are some of the ways in which you can prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the premises? Some might answer that by saying that they can install CCTV cameras, etc. But that’s not an affordable option for everyone.
Changing locks on the other hand, is not just cheaper but also an effective option. Furthermore, when it comes to locks, you have several options available. You can either go for smart or traditional locks. Let’s take a look at both of these:
Traditional Locks
Traditional locks refer to the kind of locks that we have been seeing since we were kids. Even to this day, they are commonly used in homes and offices. Some examples of these locks include mortise locks, deadbolt systems, doorknobs, and cylindrical locks.
Unlike smart locks, these are operated manually. You turn the key, twist it, or press a button. It consists of cylinders, which have multiple pins. All of which are loaded with springs.
In order to lock (or unlock) the door you need to make sure that you have inserted the right key in the lock. If you insert the wrong key, the pins wouldn’t align and therefore, the door would remain locked.
One thing that you need to know about traditional locks is that not all of them offer the same level of security. For example, deadbolts are usually considered safer than doorknobs.
Smart Locks
Smart locks are different from their traditional counterparts because they are automatic. What this means is that you can operate these locks using your cell phones or other electronic devices.
The keys are encoded with a cryptographic sequence and this makes them a lot safer than their traditional counterparts. However, one area where smart locks are considered to be inferior to traditional locks is customization.
You can only use install one specific type of lock system in your home. However, with traditional lock systems you can combine different lock systems for example deadbolts with doorknobs etc.
